What do the boardies think of the Diesel laundering plant found in Castleblaney. Where was the diesel ending up and would it cause engine damage

It was probably ending up in various dodgy filling stations both sides of the border.

I'd expect washed diesel to be more acidic and a less efficient lubricant than legit diesel. Prolonged use of it will damage the high pressure injection system in the engine as it relies on the diesel as a lubricant as well as a fuel. Once this happens most manufacturers will invalidate the warranty on the entire engine.

That place in Ashbourne has relocated to the back of the white house. I would not be diesel there in a fit.

Alot of truck drivers up North burn Green Diesel not because they are saving money, but rather its saves the price of a new Engine or engine rebuild due to the contamination of washed Diesel being passed off as kosher. Green Diesel itself is the same as White Diesel only for the illegality of it and tax implications if caught which see a whole audit done to try uncover anymore dodgy goings on.

Just spotted on the RTE News website that a truck being driven by a customs guy with some of the confiscated gear accidently entered NI and was stopped by a gang of men whereupon the driver fled (wouldn't blame him) and the truck was set on fire.

Sounds to me like a fake 'detour' sign was erected to send the guy into a preplanned ambush.

Agents of either state would not be welcome around those parts.

No - the road from Castleblayney to Dundalk goes through the North around Cullaville - I wouldn't credit the yahoos around there with enough kudos to put up false signage

Maybe, the RTE News report says the truck 'accidently' crossed into NI.

Just looked at the route on the map, it does go through South Armagh all right, looks like cowboy territory. Culaville and Crossmaglen are placenames we've heard before and it wasn't because of Tidy Towns or anything in that category! I'd say that section of road doesn't see too many PSNI patrols.

Is the rumour true that green diesel stains the inside of your fuel tank.

I've often heard that Customs and Excise do regular checks nears marts to see if farmers are using the green stuff in jeeps.

I went through a stage of getting dipped every month in my motor.... It's stopped recently.

The big worry for the border region is that these places are getting more and more common. Eventually all the big names with "Quality" brands will be forced out of the areas. If that happens then it will spread further and further south !

They need to invoke some kind of licence for Green diesel. "Hi, I am Farmer Jim and I require 200 Litres of Green diesel please" instead of being able to pull into a yard with a tanker and take away what you wish !

The penalties for selling the dodgy stuff are too light too ! The Government are losing revenue (god forbid) and people are damaging their vehicles !

It wasn't on the Castleblayney to Dundalk road. It was the Blayney road out of Crossmaglen that the plant was found on.There is no sign of the border or anything on the road.

It was in the scrapyard just below the A marker

The road where the tanker was lit is the "blayney road" You can see where it crosses the border (right at the big oil depot:))

For anyone who doesn't know the area the plant is on the south side but you have to drive through the north to get there. This makes it hard for the Guards to raid it. Same with a lot of these places.

The guards must have got permission from the PSNI to cross over for the raid... but not from the locals.:D

No, you can get to it all the way by staying this side, don't need to cross over at all.
