Car Insurance Recommendations

My insurance is up at the end of the month and I got my renewal notice from Quinn Direct and my insurance has gone up again by over €100, to about €650.

I'm looking around for other quotes and the best I've got so far are from 123.ie and Tesco Car Insurance.

Anyone got any recommendations for car insurance companies? I've already had about 6 or 7 different online quotes and I'm hating the thoughts of having to ring around tons of places trying to get more quotes.

My insurance I would think shouldn't be that high. I've got a full license for about 16 years, no penalty points, 8 years no claims bonus, no claims or anything and I drive a Nissan Almera, so hardly a Suburu Impreza WRC

Ring a broker, they'll shop for you and get better rates.

Ring the AA for a quote.. They beat my broker by €90
Told my broker and he matched it.;)

The AA were the cheapest I could find

They were over €1000 when I got a quote online

I don't have an insurance broker, where can I get one of those? I've no idea about them. I'm based in South County Dublin.

I actually rang the AA there now and got a very good quote from them which I'm probably going to take.

    Thanks for the info.

Was online getting quotes recently and when I rang the same company I got the online price from to try and get a better deal they said they could not do any better than the online price as i had entered all my datails and they were on file now.

Sounds good, I was going to suggest them also.
They do discounts with some employers

I did the rounds of the sites recently and Tesco were by far the cheapest by over 100 quid. 200 if I go for their "value" brand. Standard insurance is same cover as I currently get with AA except I am allowed 2 unlimited claims without hitting my NCB. AA allow me one claim.

I did notice an ad for AXA today saying they do up to 70% no claims. Might give them a bell on Monday.

Nononsense were about the same as what Quinn quoted me so they are out. I think 123 were the absolute cheapest although they didn't seem to offer full no claims protection, only step back. I've also heard a few nightmare stories about them so I'm giving them a wide berth.

Tesco were pretty cheap too, very close to the AA price although their "top" brand insurance didn't seem to have windscreen cover, while their "middle" level insurance did, which I find strange. Might phone them up to clarify anyway.

Anyway I'm saving about €200 at the moment so I'm reasonably happy with that.

Make sure you are comparing like with like on each policy. Lots of insurance companies offering low premiums over others in order to suck people into thinking they are getting a better deal. But when you check what is actually covered there is a world of difference and the initial cheap quote can end up being more expensive.

Also don't skimp on things like windscreen cover or breakdown assistance on your policy. They don't cost that much extra to the policy in comparision to having to fork out for a new windscreen or a recovery truck yourself.

Be aware when buying an AA policy,99.9% of insurance companies have breakdown assistance as standard on all comprehensive policies however with them its an optional extra with the cost ranging from 80 to 200 quid.

No nonsense are cheap as they offer a very stripped down policy that can be built around your own personal requirements ie everything like windscreen cover or breakdown assist is an extra charge.

Chill.ie have 14 different underwriters so they might be worth giving a call.

    Agreed,
I did not go with them in the end, I stayed with my broker who has me insured with Zurich ;)
