Very nice pictures well done, I wonder if they came off the "George W Bush" carrier that has just left Portsmouth last Tuesday.

Possibly, but not sure why they would be in Shannon though.
VRC-40 'Rawhides' are notionally based in NAS Norfolk. Not sure if they are normally embarked with a carrier group for its cruise.

Here's a great pic of one of their aircraft painted in full livery for their 50th anniversary last year. Pic taken on USS George H.W. Bush:

So the crusties accusing Shannon of being an American base are right! Long may it continue. Since Obama came into power they have looked pretty silly.

maybe they were rotating back state side after taking part in those exercises with the RAF and the carrier. pity nothing else came in too.

Nothing to do with the exercise..These were heading to Italy,
Most likely to operate with the carriers in the Mediterranean and Gulf region....

Interesting colour scheme on the Greyhounds - I thought all US Navy aircraft were painted that dull grey we see on the C-130 ?
I thought the 2 tone look went out years ago ?

Could be in honour of the 50th birthday of the squadron last year?

could be wrong but i think its only front line combat aircraft that are painted low viz, greyhounds are used for Carrier Onboard Delivery hence the codbird nickname, they are the navy equivalent of transit vans :)
