Well I had my first golf lesson last night, must say it was a great experience. First up I had to take a few shots off the matt while the instructor videoed my swing. Thankfully when he analysed it there was only a few minor things to change in order to correct my swing and actually asked me had I got a lesson before as I had a fairly solid swing.

He broke it down into 4 sections for me:
    GRIP / POSTURE / BACKSWING / DOWNSWING
GRIP: I was keeping my right arm & wrists rigid through my swing so I have to loosen them
POSTURE: I was standing up way to straight so now I need to lean over more and let my arms hang down
BACKSWING & DOWNSWING: I was swivelling around my hips and swinging down with my arms rather than turning and letting my arms follow (not using my hips / legs at all). When I finished hitting a shot I was facing 45degrees to the right rather than straight at the target.

After a few mins and a few drills I went from hitting a 5 iron 120 to 175 yards and as the lesson went on the duff shots disappeared. i stayed on after & used the rest of the balls and i'd say at the end 7 out of 10 went exactly where i wanted.

I have to practice my posture, weight transfer and with a cloth under my left arm.

Was only supposed to have 35 mins for each lesson but we were there for over an hour. Can’t wait for the next 2!!
