Query re driving "incidient"

The weirdest thing happened to me this morning -

I was coming in through Ballymount Industrial Estate this morning and was coming to the Walkinstown roundabout. I was continuing on straight towards the KCR. I took the outside lane of the two lanes entering the roundabout from Ballymount. For anyone who doesn't know the roundabout it was the 3rd exit, which is roughly straight ahead. As anyone who uses the roundabout will know people use both lanes entering the roundabout. The roundabout has 3 lanes once you’re on it.

Anyway there was a fiesta on the inside lane who ended up going straight towards the KCR as well and as it transpired we were both going for the middle lane of the roundabout.

I was about 3/4 of a car length ahead of her as we entered the junction, was on the roundabout before her and was clearly in the middle lane before her.

Once we got of the roundabout she flashed by twice or three times. I looked up into my rear mirror and mouthed "are you flashing me", shock my head and drove on. I made absolutely no gesture towards her or anything like that.

She then proceeded to drive up my ass the whole way towards the KCR, breaking a set of traffic lights in order to keep behind me. Once we got to where the road splits in 3 for the KCR she put the boot down to get along side me and gestured with a piece of paper that she'd got my number plate.... Kind of unusual considering the number plate is only four characters long including the year, county and number. I would have thought it was fairly simple to remember!!

IMO there was absolutely nothing in this incident and I could very easily have been angry with her for trying to cut across me. Again IMO, I think in the event of an accident she would have been in the wrong.

I didn't get her number plate as she was driving so far up my ass for most of the time that I couldn't see it. She dropped back a bit from me before all the set of traffic lights but I was concentrating on the road and didn't have an opportunity to get her number.

I know it's highly unlikely that anything will come of this and I'm not particularly worried about my conduct on the roundabout and likewise I don’t think there was anything particularly wrong with her conduct on the roundabout either. However, if she does decide to report the “incident” then I will play along with her.

Presumably I can report her for tailgating and also breaking a set of traffic lights on the way up to the KCR.

So basically after (probably a pointlessly) long post I’m worrying how either of use go about proving the driving incident?

All the above was at very low speed, we were both at a standing start at the roundabout and I was keeping the speed limit on the way up to the KCR so she must have been keeping it too and perhaps slightly speeding to catch back up with my after she dropped behind me at each of the traffic lights.

Look at it this way, her being at home being angry at the bad man and shes not even sure why.

Thats enough punishment i'd say :pac:

Well if she was tail-gating and she broke a red light, that means you also broke a red light :p

    Happens me all the time.

I always expect this and hold my line but I keep my poker face (pretending I don't see them but am prepared), cos usually they'll check for eye contact in your mirrors.

They usually **** themselves and back off.

Probably not a cool thing to do but it gives me satisfaction all the same.

    Crazy cat lady, probably.

She would have to make a formal complaint to the Gardai to have anything even remotely done about it. It is highly unlikely she will and the Gardai are not going to be arsed by someone who "thinks" they were cut up.

Wouldn't worry about it, chances of her actually calling the Gardaí is slim enough and the chances of them taking any notice is slimmer again.

She most not travel on that roundabout much as its every man/woman and whatever else for themselves.
And everytime your on it you'll get cut up, its a real close the eyelids and go place junction.

Can't imagine much could come op.
Surely taking down a reg plate is more dangerous while driving anyway.
Or did she see you had ran out of paper and needed something to write on quickly?!!

Actually,I decided to go up and have a read on roundabouts

    http://www.access-board.gov/research/roundabouts-signals/report.htm

This is pretty interesting, covers a few countries and the thinking behind them :)

I like the Turbo roundabouts with lane dividers, stops people cutting lanes or changing their mind at the last minute.

She backed off me before every set of lights - presumably incase I decided to turn left or right late and then she could react and follow me...?

The lights changed as I was going through them and she had to break the lights to get through them after me.

Exactly the roundabout is a complete free for all at the best of times...

I'm not really worried if she calls the Gardai as I'm pretty happy that I didn't do anything wrong. Likewise I don't think she did anything wrong on the roundabout either. What she did afterwards is a different question but again I'm not really interested in getting involved in reporting it unless she tries to do me.

It's beyond me why she started flashing as it wasn't even something that happended quickly. I saw her going to cut into me and had enough room to move into the 3rd lane of the roundabout if she continued. In the end she followed behind me around the roundabout. The whole incident happen at about 20km per hour!!

As for taking my reg plate down - well I think that just somes her level of intelligence up.... A plate with 4 characters in it and she can't remember it?!!

Let her reel in her own idiocracy.. she will probably go mad and end up rocking back and forth for the rest of her life.

Doesn't your car have 6 characters on the plate :)
(presuming you were in your car, I thought it had 335 in the reg, may be wrong)

As far as I am concerned OP you were in the right lane exiting Ballymount to take the KCR exit.

I always use the Left hand exit to take the immediate and second exit.

    I was in my car... Nope it's not 335 it's just 3.

I was once followed by a guy whom used a roundabout incorrectly and nearly cut me up. He obviously thought I cut him up because he was, like a sheep, following somebody who took the 3rd so he cut over and took the 2nd.

Anyway, he used the bus lane to get passed me. At the next roundabout I used the inner orbital lane(2 lanes on / 2 lanes off) and he used the outer orbital lane. I make around 8 turns after this and he was still on me. I jammed on the brakes on a back road, confronted him and took his keys and locked myself in the car calling the cops. He got very aggresive waving a Garda badge at me. I fvcked the keys at him and told him to fvck off. I met the Gardai, gave them all the details.

Turns out he was "known" to the Gardai and had previous for GBH, ABH, drinking driving etc etc. I was told I was lucky he didn't "KICK OFF".

I'm sure your "opponent" on the roads wouldn't have done anything if you managed to confront her but from experience it's best to let these things go.

I do around 1200kms per week and meet every manner of nutcase on the roads. It's best not to think about them. Count to 5 everytime you experience road rage and it will just blow over.

Ya see therein lies the problem. She was in a fiesta, and you were in a BMW... no matter how wrong she was you were always going to come out the bad guy.

If there was no physical contact i.e. no collision I would not worry about it.

No there was no physical contact. I wouldn't even class what happened as being a close one....

Eh - how does that work?

You could always report that a car jumped the lights and touched your back bumper. That way she would face a charge of driving recklessly if she tried to do you.
