Book Values and Insurance

Is there a resource on the web that gives book values for a car?

I ask because last night a mini decided to embed itself in the side of mine, a 03 Mondeo Zetec, the passenger door is pretty much destroyed, replacement needed, and the sill running under the door is bent and buckled. I'm HOPING that there is no chassis damage, but that will be in the hands of the assessors/mechanics etc.

If there is chassis damage, given the age of the car i'm concerned it might be a write off, and just want to have a look around at prices for a replacement, just in case....

Nope, the "book" is produced by a private company who charge for its use, as such it's proprietary information and not generally available.

That being said, it's not always right - you should try and arrive at your own value for the car (with reasoning/proof) and use this in your negotiations with the insurance company, if they'll let you negotiate.

    Thanks -Chris-, appreciate that.

Not fair about the reasonable values though..... there go my dreams about replacing it with a Jag!!

The insurance company may right the car off but there's nothing stopping you fixing it up. They quote their repairs on new dealer parts and rates, while you don't.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

You could give the VRT calculator a go to see what it gives for the OMSP.

Or your friendly bank manager might take a peek at the 'book' for you if you ask nicely...

    Thanks.

According to that, the omsp is @ €2000, the quote for repairs is €2900, but they are going ahead with the repairs anyway.... which is weird.

not gonna argue though, as the car is mechanically sound and apart from needing a new passenger door it is in good shape bodywise...
