Right, so I was driving into Dublin this evening, I reached down to change gear and found the gearstick was completely loose, literally wobbling around. I was no longer able to use it change gear, or engage gear's in any selective way. Although moving it sometimes made the car change gear, it seemed almost random what gear was selected. I managed to get it home in third gear (my clutch wasn't happy).

Tomorrow I will get a mechanic to look at it obviously, but just wondering based on the symptoms do any of you have any theories and / or rough price guestimations?

Sounds like one of the selector cables or pivots may have come off or loose.
