    Hi lads,

    golf14petrolengine.jpg

I heard a hissing noise the other day, when the car was running.. so I popped the hood, and the pipe shown with the white arrow above was seriously loose and hissing... I got some amalgamating tape and fix it back in position..

But what is the pipe going from and to, my manual doesnt have pictures of the engines.. is there anywhere I can find this?

    thanks in advance..

it looks like the pipe to the servo, (brakes). If it is the brakes would be extra hard to operate and the car would take alot longer to stop.it should be going to a big drum looking thing on the bulkhead.

I think the servo is on the far side of the engine.. Is that not it connected to the master cylinder with the yellow cap..

I've taken a closer picture to give a better idea..

Anybody know where I could get a diagram of my engine 02 Golf 1.4 Petrol..

Oh right the angle it was at was hard to make out (thats my excuse:P).It now looks like the heater hose.Yeah I think your right about the servo over on the far side. Not sure about the diagram.

That is the servo vacume pipe. If you follow it along the bulkhead you'll see where it connects to the servo.

Sorry for digging up this thread, but there was a question I forgot to ask.. I sealed up the pipe with a bit of self amalgamating tape and it seems to be fine now..

BUT will this get it through the NCT or will they just say "oh, dodgy pipe, needs to be replaced"... ? To be honest the amount of tape I've put around it, it's probably actually stronger than it was new..

It'll pass the NCT but you really should look at getting it replaced. As described earlier if it fails the brakes become harder to use and thus your braking distance will increase. More worryingly though is that if it fails your car could stall when braking due to loss of pressure in the inlet manifold and this is particularly dangerous when trying to negotiate a turn.

It wouldn't be an issue with the nct so you'll be fine.
