Weekend City Break in Europe

    Evenin' all!

The girlfriend's birthday is coming up, so I'm looking for some suggestions on where to go for a weekend (prob long weekend) break in Europe.
She brought me off to Barcelona for my bday earlier in the year, so don't want to go to Spain again.
She likes sun, so if it's warm, all the better, but it's not essential.

So where's good? Was thinking Nice but sounds pretty expensive and I haven't spoken a word of French since the leaving cert, and I hear you need to make the effort.
    Anyone been anywhere nice recently??

    Can't bate Rome.
Brought my GF to Rome in February. Cost me €40 on Ryanair for the flights (Return.).
Was unreal. Stayed near the Vatican and got all the sights in, as well as going out there.
We both loved it, and even in February it was 23-24 degrees.

Id have a look at Berlin also,so much to see and do during the day,and a neverending choice of bars/cafes/Nightlife. Not expensive either.

I'd have to +1 for Rome - or basically anywhere in Italy. Rome has tonnes to do and you can walk all over the city without worrying about transport. Plus authentic Italian food is just incredible!
Venice is nice - but it can be a total rip-off so be careful.

Paris is lovely too - lots to see. The metro service is excellent for getting around.
And actually Londond is great craic with loads to see and do but might not be that warm!

Wherever you go, just don't go eating any cucumbers! :D

....something different but worth considering is Stockholm especially if you like nice scenic boat trips and museums. It's a beautiful city and has to be visited in the Summer to be appreciated :)

My vote would be for Florence. Beautiful city, and plenty to see and do for a few days. Pisa is only an hour's train ride away, and so is Bologna if you coincided your visit with the Bologna film festival (June 25th-July 2nd this year; it's outdoors, free, and last year we saw 'The General' accompanied by a live orchestra).

Very, very warm this time of year, hotter than I or my girlfriend found comfortable to be honest. Also, personally, I don't believe Pisa is worth more than a daytrip, we were bored there after a couple of hours.

Loved Rome so much to see, Krakow is fantastic too and Venice is also beautiful. Been to Riga also but was not impressed and would not go back there.

    WAs in Nice at Easter,

Its not as expensive as people say and as always depends on whagt yu want from the holiday.

We did everything we wanted for 50 euro each a day.

    Monaco is lovely.

Any questions feel free to ask

I second Stockholm, fantastic city, not the cheapest but you can buy stuff and have picnics! Booked flights for about 80 euro return for July ( Dub to Stockholm) with Ryanair last week so it's hard to beat that.

Berlin is extremely popular, but even though I stayed in a lovely area, the city's charm more or less escaped me. I know I'm in the minority!

Would you let us know which city you ultimately opt for?

+1 for Florence. The city is beautiful, just has a glow about it especially in summer.
Warm, loads to see and do, relatively cheap and loads of day trips to other parts of Italy that are decently priced too.
    Some fantastic restaurants aswell.

I would say Gothenberg but I don't think anybody flys there now which is a shame. Sweden really is a kick ass country.

I have been to Nice and as somebody already said its not as expensive as you hear, probably one of the cheaper places along the Cote d'Azur. Miles of beach but its mostly if not all a pebble beach. Cannes has great beaches so you could stay ther but it'd probably be a bit dearer.

Hear good things about Rome though...

Have a think about Vienna, lovely city. Has one of the best standards of living in Europe. Coffee, cakes, people very friendly and stunning architecture. You can do boat trips on the river too.

I agree Vienna is beautiful. So much history and architecture. Very clean too.

Also it is extremely close to Bratislava (capital of Slovakia) and that in itself is great for a day trip or maybe an overnight. It is so close to Vienna (about 45minutes) that may people who work in Vienna live in Bratislava and commute
