Scrapping a 98 Fiesta

I have a 2006 Suziki Ignes and a much loved 98 Fiesta - who never ever lets me down.

I am hoping to trade up in 2012 to maybe a 2009 car - not sure yet but just wondering what can I or should I do with the 98 Fiesta as of course I would get nothing for it and we only need one car now.

Its a pity really as in all the cars I have owned that Fiesta was the most reliable car - always started in bad weather and never ever let me down.

So how do I go about scrapping an old car?

If it's in good shape (not too much rust, etc.) and with an NCT you can probably sell it for around €700, if no tax/NCT maybe €300 or so. Even non-running it would probably be worth more in parts than scrap value - there's still loads on the road (despite apparently being the most scrapped car on the scrappage scheme) so a lot of people looking for parts.

That's thanks to one thing Ford did right early on - electronic ingition - because their distributors were rubbish! :) I had a '98 Fiesta up until recently, never let me down either but the engine was slowly turning to shíte (broken valve that wasn't worth fixing).

That pretty much covers it, if it's good and still treating you well, look after it until the time comes to change and you should be able to sell it for several times what you'd get as weigh in value for scrap. They're still a popular cheap runabout as they're so crude and simple meaning they don't break too much and if they do it's easy and cheap to fix.
