Calling all you experts - recommend a TV

My sis lives in Dublin (on her own) and has asked me to help her choose a TV. This is a wee bit awkward as Im in Donegal :D so Im looking for a bit of help here. She doesn't really trust the sale people in the various shops and indeed I have to agree with her to an extent. That aside Id just like to point out that she would be happy enough with buying from the likes of Argos - doesn't have to be a shop specialising in TV sales.

She is looking for something along the lines of a 37" - 40" to replace her 8 year old and 8 stone weight telly. Her only source of signal at the moment is from a Sky dish (she's a Sky subscriber) and I have been advising her to get an aerial up as back up if nothing else which I think she will do shortly.

The basics will be 37 - 40", full HD, quality brand and hopefully something that will last a few years and cost less than €500. But with the introduction of Saorview she will need a telly that is compatible with that.

Which are the best type - Plasma, LCD or LED? What sort of brands are recommended? What else should she be watching out for?

If anyone can even post a link to something that would fit the bill would be much appreciated as would any and all advice.

    Hi Muffler,

Why not try the richer sounds forum here on boards, normally have great deals and very good advice.

Yeah I was having a look at their site but tbh anything that comes close to a decent spec is fairly pricey.

In saying that I do need a bit of advice about the saorview/saorsat end of things and what tv's have it and dont have it. I'll see if anyone else has any advice on a good telly and if needs be I can copy and past the post above on their forum.

    Thanks for the reply.
