    Hi,
    Looking for some info here.
We are thinking about putting Walnut doors into our new build.
The shade of wood on the doors look brighter then sample that is in suppliers showroom.
They are saying that the wood will change and darken over time.
The question is will they ?? or are they just saying that for the sale ?

    Thanks All

I put down solid walnut floors a few years back and if anything they've gotten lighter.
Maybe give another couple of door sellers a call and see do they back up his theory.

    Hi Tmurf
The sales person is correct. The doors will darken in time. I presume they are prefinished. When the doors are made and laquered by the manufacturers they are wrapped in a seal of plastic. this keep the doors clean and sealed until you are for fitting.
When the doors are in the house they will darken because now they are out in the atmosphere and the timber can breath and will darken up

Yes the doors are pre finished. I am hearing conflicting reports on this from one place to the next.
I would presume in direct sunlight the would lighten.
But in everyday/natural light not so sure.

The walnut doors you are looking at are probable veneered. They are probably in the showrooms for a good time and have coloured up. being a veneer it will take a lot longer to colour up, but they will in time.

Check with supplier to see who bought some and see if can you arrange to see some doors hung in a house.
