Just saw this on the front page of the Herald, a woman out jogging on the southside had something wrapped around her neck and was dragged towards bushes at 11:30 yesterday morning. There are two other reports of attacks of this nature in the locality.

    Be Careful.

Yes I have heard about this and am surprised it hasn't made the news. A woman had her jaw broken in Watergate Park the other day and another was almost strangled to death-everyone is talking about it

Yikes, thats very worrying... theres seems to have been a few reports of women out jogging being attacked recently. Also scarey that they happened in the middle of the day, in quite public areas, parks etc... I have always run on my own but I have to admit Im starting to re-evaluate that lately. Might be time to do that self-defense class Ive been putting off.

    Hope that woman is ok.

Hate hearing stories like that my other half is about to start Couch25K, I suppose you can never be too careful, was thinking of getting her something like THIS

Pity stun guns are illegal for creeps like these.

Her sister was on the radio last night, if she had not been strong and fit she would have been murdered also the guy that done it was foreign..(not that it make any difference)

there seems to be 3 versions of this story doing the rounds..all involving different parks. kingswood pk,bornebhreena cemetary and old bawn park. is the story true? or is it one of those annual headlines involving a child being coaxed into a car by some stranger. and further more..i heard it was a woman walking alone..not a jogger.

Caller on with Joe said she was out walking, Joe quoted the newspaper as saying she was jogging.
The park seems to know as a few different names in the area.

If the radio station was FM104 or 98FM, I'm calling bull**** on the sister.

Happens every year, along with the sightings of attempted abductions of children which are never proven yet everyone in the neighbourhood has their own version.

I'm reminded of this re the jogger headline rather than 'runner attacked.'

Gardai at Clondalkin are appealing to the public for information following a serious assault which occurred at Ballymount, Dublin 24 on Monday, 30th May 2011.

At approximately 11:45am a woman aged in her 20s was approached and assaulted by a lone male while out walking in Ballymount Park. Following a struggle, the man escaped on foot in the direction of the M50. The woman was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and has since been discharged.

The scene was technically examined and a number of statements have been taken by investigating Gardai.
The man is described as approximately 30 years of age, of average height and build, with short dark hair and was wearing a black leather jacket.
Gardai are appealing, in particular, to motorists travelling on the M50 between Junction 10 Ballymount and Junction 9 Red Cow between 10:30am and 12:30pm on 30th May 2011 and who may have noticed a male fitting the above description to contact them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Have heard talk of this from quite a few family members who live in Tallaght over the last few days. The talk of someone being attacked near Bohernabreena cemetery worries me a bit though!

"At this point Gardaí have no reports of any other similar incidents in the Tallaght/Clondalkin area. We are aware of rumours of other assaults on women in the Tallaght area that are currently circulating on social media.

Some of these rumours have also unfortunately been reported as fact by some mainstream media. We have no information to indicate that any of these assaults took place or that any woman suffered the injuries reported. If anyone has information about any of the alleged incidents we would ask them to contact gardaí but in the meantime we are concerned that these rumours are causing unnecessary fear in the local community.
Gardaí continue to investigate and appeal for information on the serious incident which did take place in Ballymount Park.
Advice and information on personal safety is also available on the Crime Prevention section of the Garda website.

Just to clear up, I know of the girl attacked in Kingswood Park. It was around midday and she was alone. She did have her jaw broke and her nose. She is doing ok. The attacker, who was disturbed by a passer-by, is apparently foreign, Polish maybe but that probably wont help as most of my Polish neighbours look Irish. As far as I am aware, the other reports are rumours. Women, please be careful.

Possibly "jogger" sound more a more innocent and a nice happy passtime that anyone can do, so how dare someone attack the nice "jogger".

But a "runner" sounds more serious and almost professional, we do all like to refer to ourselves as runners as "joggers" is not quite good enough a term for what we do.

But if your writing a story about a victim then you make them sound harmless and nice, if your writing a story about someone winning something then they should sound more serious about what they do.

Garda denies reports of serial attacker of women

THE GARDA has taken the unusual step of officially denying media reports that suggested a serial attacker has been targeting female joggers and young mothers pushing buggies.

A statement from Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin, said while one attack on a woman in a west Dublin park was being investigated, rumours about a series of attacks in the wider area were without foundation.

It said the rumours began circulating on social networking sites and were then reported as fact in some reports in the mainstream media.

“We have no information to indicate that any of these assaults took place or that any woman suffered the injuries reported,” the Garda statement said.

“If anyone has information about any of the alleged incidents, we would ask them to contact gardaí but in the meantime, we are concerned that these rumours are causing unnecessary fear in the local community.”

Some of the reports suggested that women, some pushing buggies, had been assaulted in random attacks in west Dublin.

The Garda statement issued yesterday confirmed a woman in her 20s had been attacked while out jogging in Ballymount Park, Dublin, last Monday morning, May 30th.

At about 11.45am, she was approached by a man who attacked her and tried to drag her into an area away from public view. After a struggle, the man ran away in the direction of the M50.

The woman managed to raise the alarm and was taken to Tallaght hospital. She was discharged a short time later.

Her attacker is described as being aged about 30 and was of average height and build. He has short dark hair and was wearing a short leather jacket.
