Has anyone any experience of using this company? Was thinking of doing something different for holidays not to keen on a sun trip and their brochure sounds good. Trips are focused on small groups going to places of the beaten track. Prices seem reasonable.

When I last heard of them they were part of TUI Group (same people as Thompson Travel and Firstchoice) and the tours were outsourced to local providers, and I would guess that means that quality can vary.

Actually most of that reply is somewhat inaccurate. Intrepid are not part of TUI but have recently joined a joint venture where they actually manage TUI adventure travel brands, and again opposite to the previous reply they are one of the very few operators around that do own their own ground companies - which means they are in total control of the services and quality.

lol! OK, having double checked that - there is more than one Intrepid out there and I've mixed info from my head about one with info on the internet about another

A couple of my friends have used them twice. Once for Vietnam and the other time for China. They enjoyed both trips , said they were very well organised and made friends with whom they're still in touch.

On the other hand, having travelled independently in those countries, I thought the trips were very expensive for what was offered. They didn't go "off the beaten track" in any way that I would understand the term either.

Basically if you want everything organised for you, don't want to travel alone and are willing to pay a premium for that they're worth looking at.

Went on a Vietnam/Cambodia tour with Intrepid over xmas/new year. Cant fault them, for Asia travel anyhow. Without a doubt you are paying a premium but I honestly feel as a thirty something female travelling solo with limited time it was the most painfree way to optimise my hols. Made great friends too! PM me if you want to know anything more specific

I wouldnt bother with them especially if you are thinking south east asia. The cost of the trips from what I can see are at least twice and sometimes even close to three times the price of doing it alone.
Havent seen any of their trips that go off the beaten track either
