My car insurance is up for renewal next week. I had an accident about 18 months ago and the claim still hasnt been settled. The accident was my fault but the claim hasnt been settled for numerous reasons. I am wondering if I can change my insurance to a different provider as a friend of mine told me you cant when there is still a claim outstanding.

Im really not happy with the current quote i got for insurance and am going to ring around a few places in the morning but would i be wasting my time?

Also, legally you would have to inform them of the current open claim and how much its valued at right now and then they would probably load your insurance policy around the same amount as the renewal you got - if they will even give you a quote !!!
If you did get a quote on another ins company without telling them about this claim and then had an accident with your car again they can cancel your policy back to inception and you would be liable for all costs associated so its not really worth the risk.
