car tax question

    hey there,

A quick question, my mother just got insured on her car and wants to tax it. The problem is she just bought the car and had to get the guarda form to say she has not been driving it before. On the form there is an area to put the insurance policy number which she has not received yet and probably wont until next Wednesday over the long weekend.

Is it possible to go into the tax office with the form filled out without the policy number? She is insured but just waiting for the letter.

    Thank you for any answers.

she should still have a policy number regardless of the paper work not arriving

2 years ago Quinn took around a few weeks to send out my policy details when I switched to them,
after a phone call they confirmed the policy number was valid and could be used if needed (checkpoint etc..)

Just put down your own policy number, or any one, preferably a valid one. I my own local motor tax office they don't seem bothered about it at all, and once there's something written in the box they don't take a second glance at it.

It's the same way in most of the tax offices i reckon.

But if your mother calls the insurance company and gives them her details to prove who she is and the reg of her car they'll be able to tell her the number on the new policy, seeign as it's been issued

Conrad is right, any number will do. They don't check them.

It also applies to taxing online. I was recently taxing a car for a family member when she realised she did not have her policy with her. I put in the policy number for my own car and it worked.
