I know I should ring Quinn and Ill have the answer in seconds but I'm out of credit and need an answer to settle a dispute!

Does anyone know could I renew an car insurance policy on 21st June and suspend it on the 28th June for 1 month? Then in a month have it reinstate for another 11 3/4 months so I don't pay for the month I am away?

You won't be ringing Quinn tonight, their call centre only opens till 7pm. (Stupidity) :P

I'm sure you probbaly can but it's a silly idea for the sake of the relatively small amount of money involved. Unless, of course, you have house insurance which also covers parked cars on the premises in which case, go right ahead.

If its robbed my responsibilty. Its just I am 18 and it costs nearly €200 a month which is very expensive to pay for. So would be willing to take the risk as it will be in my Drive while I am away with my parents & brother still at the house.

You only suspend the 3rd party element. So you are covered if someone robs it.

When you re-commence it, it will run until the original expiry date.

Do you know roughly how much you get back?

Quinn are taking €2,400 a year of you? Do you drive a Range Rover? My first insurance with the same company at the same age on a 1.2L was €1590.

In general, you can suspend a policy but you have to keep paying the DD installments. When you re-instate you will then get a rebate for the length of time it was suspended. Your renewal date will remain the same.

Sounds good, don't mind paying and getting a refund just can't justify paying €200 for a month when I am away.

sdonn -Currently I am paying €1000 but getting a 1.6 Alfa thats why its so expensive.

Jesus, that's some step up - more than double - even for a petrolhead's dream car

Maybe you should consider something else, if only for a year or two until your insurance drops like a stone (and it will, I just renewed with Quinn on a 1.6 with 3yrs NCB for €690) It's your money - but just a thought.

Well currently it's a 1 litre car, a 1.4 Focus (which is still underpowered) is €1,600. To me the €1k is worth it for the Alfa and anyway I should be able to bargain it down to €1700 or so with out much difficulty.
