Drink as an excuse for everything

Is anyone else sick of hearing people doing terrible things and using drink as an excuse for doing it?

I really think its ridiculous. Drink does not make you do things you dont want to do. It gives you the confidence to do something you might not have otherwise done, but it doesn't do make you do something against your will. Maybe it helps put in motion whats in your mind. I've heard of people cheating on their bf/gf and the likes and saying it was all down to drink, but I dont believe it.

I have been drunk many, many times but it has never made me do anything I didn't want to. Is it just an Irish thing or what?

(btw I mean drunk, not demented from a three day absinth binge).

    I agree.

If drinking turns you into a prick then don't drink.

    Yore Ma?

    (Can't believe I said that!)

In all seriousness though - some DO try to lay all the blame on their parents instead.

I used " I was very drunk your honour"

Drink lowers Inhibitions. It doesn't reset them to the level they're really at. So of course, people do stupid things when they are drunk that they wouldn't do otherwise. However, that being said, if you are prone to doing stupid ****, maybe you shouldn't drink so much.

So people just aren't confident enough to puke in the middle of the road?

It isn't an excuse and it is a good reason for people doing stupid things. It impairs judgement. You may not have heard that before... You can blame a person for drinking too much but jesus were all fallible. Get off your horse and worry about yourself.

I wasn't referring to stupid things, I said terrible things. Puking in the road, having your pants fall down, singing on the streets, thinking you're hilarious when you're just annoying, all of those things are stupid. They're fine. Cheating on your partner, hitting someone, doing intentionally devious things and saying awful stuff, this is what I'm talking about.

Can I take it you have not lived / or even been outside Ireland for any length of time? And going somewhere with your parents as a kid probably doesn't really count.

You've never blacked out on drink then OP.

There was that one time I killed my neighbour and dumped the body in the ocean . . . other than that, no I haven't. No matter how drunk I've been, I've always been somewhat aware.

Drink 3/4 a bottle whiskey or more and report back.

You do relize alcohol is a controlled substance, the excuse being that it can leads people to do stupid things. No it's not an Irish thing!

    Get over it!

I must remember that line if I'm ever up before a judge for a drink related offence ,it's bound to knock a few months of any sentence .
