    Hi,
My Norton antivirus software is about to expire and instead of renewing it for another year I'm going to try Microsoft Security Essentials as I've been told it does the same job & it's free so I can save myself €80. My problem is that I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to anything techie/computerish. Can someone answer the following questions for me before I take the plunge and uninstall Norton:

    1. Is it easy to unistall Norton & following on from that, is it easy to install MSE?
    2. I have a load of passwords etc saved in my Norton account, if I uninstall Norton, will I lose this information?
    3. I'm used to how Norton works, is MSE similar?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Howdy,

I've done this loads of times for people.

You'll need to record your account details and passwords in 1 single file, like word for example. Once you have all these done, you're free to rid yourself of Norton.

You may need however, a Norton cleaner tool to strip out Norton. Loads of "Are you sure..." type Q's too.

Once you have this done, just Google MSE and the rest is properly automated.

Anymore PM me and I'll help ya more!

First, can you post the exact version of Norton you are using?. eg. Internet security or AntiVirus, and the year.

    1. Is it easy to unistall Norton & following on from that, is it easy to install MSE?
A: Uninstalling Norton is simple. You can go into add/remove programs and it will uninstall it without much hassle.

    2. I have a load of passwords etc saved in my Norton account, if I uninstall Norton, will I lose this information?
A: I assume you are referring to logins?
If so, details on how to export you logins and passwords are here:

    3. I'm used to how Norton works, is MSE similar?
A: Every AV program is defferent. They have there own way of doing things. MSE is about as simple as they come however, you should have no trouble getting used to it.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's Norton 360, year is 2010. I'm going to have a go anyway, wish me luck!

I have 7 days left with Norton. Can I swap over now? Presume I need to have MS installed first and then uninstall Norton? Thanks. Is the Microsoft enough for anti virus and security? It's Norton 360 2010.

Don't run 2 different AV progs simultaneously, remove the norton before installing MSSE
