    my guess would be Dunnock

    edit: Whoops, didn't realise that 'Hedge Sparrow' was another name for a Dunnock

    Hedge Sparrow is an antiquated name, as it is not of the Sparrow family. Dunnock it is :)

    Lads thanks for the help. Is it male/female? I was thinking sparrow but was thrown by the pattern on the back. That's why I posted here to get your opinion.

    Bit like Irish Wildbird Conservancy now Birdwatch Ireland and birdwatcher/ornithologist now birder. Afraid I'm gone the way of the Dodo. :D
