Help with Interview For Tax Trainee Programme

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone could help me with an interview that I have coming up in a mid size firm.

I applied today for the position and obtained a call back in relation to same within an hour. My problem is that I have never worked in Tax and am oblivious to the type of questions that they may throw at me.

I have a career in Law and I have touched up on various tax issues but not in any great detail. I am currently enrolled on the AITI Course where I have a genuine interest and seem to be doing quite well.

If anyone could provide me with possible questions they would ask, ways I can be ready for the interview and any other tips I would be gratefully appreciative.

Would there be any type of numeracy test or aptitude tests etc.

I would like to refrain from naming the company but wondering what is the practice in these tax and accountancy firms.

    Hi there,

I work in tax in one of the big four and previously worked in another of them. The will ask you about your experience. Coming from a legal background will be useful in relation to reading/interpretating tax legislation and contracts. Whoever is interviewing you will know that you do not have an accounting/tax background. Where you have percieved gaps I would suggest that you express a willingness to learn. Most importantly don't attempt to bluff where you don't know the answer. You will get caught out!! Just talk about the experience you have. Your industry knowledge might also be useful and your relationships with clients. Don't worry about having limited tax experience. That should be obvious from your CV and the firm might want someone with legal skills. they do transfer easily enough I think.

Hope this helps and good luck with the interview.
