    Hi.

I have never bought shares before, if I was to buy samsung shares how would I go about it?

I tried sharewatch but couldnt find samsung - do they trade in korea? How do I buy korean stocks and work out the prices and is it worth it etc?

    Thanks.

Your stockbroker will arrange trade for you. Might be no harm to ask them what info they have on samsung and what 'sell price' they are currently targeting.

Is there any specific reason you've chosen Samsung? Have you done any research on them? Investing a few hundred euro will see some of it get eaten up by transaction fees etc, you'd want to be putting in €1000+.

    Thanks.

Yes, I have done "research" on them. The company who make batteries, screens and chips for several other companies on top of their phones and tvs.

I dont have or particularly even know what one is.

I dont have 1000 euro, and definitely not starting that high even if I did.

Conor, you're appear to have an interest in this area so you should follow up with a stockbroker, even if, as Kinetic rightly pointed out, it does turn out that their fees will eat into your principle too much to make a trade worthwhile.

I'm guessing that you will enjoy and learn from the experience. Shares are extremely volatile even in a big company like Samsung. Stockbrokers and financial advisors alike usually love to chat about any investments. Just make sure you know what the share will have to do for you in order to cover their fees.

If you're dealing with a small amount of money, it won't even be worth your while trying to buy a Korean stock. Firstly, you'll have to pay in the region of 1.5-2% on exchanging Euros. Secondly, the brokerage charges will be massive. For a Korean stock, they would be €50 each way at very minimum.

To give yourself a reasonable chance of making money, I'd say you would want to be spending €5k on a single trade.

Yeah… I dont have that kind of money, especially to be speculating.

Set up a free demo account and practice with that. Use the money to invest in some books and learn to understand the concepts behind investing. Otherwise whatever money you don't lose on fees will eventually be lost to the markets
