    Hi,
My car was making a squeaky noise when I touch the breaks. So I assumed I need to have my break pads replaced. However, it also squeaks when I turn the wheel to the left. So it may not be just the break pads!

So could the break pads cause it to squeak when I turn the wheels.

    When stationary or when moving?
    When the brake isn't applied?

Yes only when moving, usually at low speeds. Yes it squeaks when turning left and not applying the break.

Best take it to a professional. They will diagnose it and give you a quote.

have had each of those symptoms when new pads needed (two different occasions), can't remember what reason was for the noise when turning but was just brake pads that were done

    a scraping sound

When you turn the wheels the flexible brake lines stretch and compress(they are designed to) and this causes the fluid in them to move which can lead to the pads moving a minute amount but enough for the pad to squeak when worn, similar to when the brakes are applied.
