Hi, I'm maybe looking at buying a Jap import but it has the original stereo.
I'm not keen on replacing it as it can ruin the look of the dash.
I've been told it can be modified to expand the FM band.
Is this true? Has anyone here had it done?

    Thanks.

Yeh you just require an FM expander, however you'll still miss out on some channels as I believe Jap radios increment in doubles only.

^ No that's the Americans. With a band expander you'll get everything on a Jap radio.

Probably just as easy to get a new stereo....

Unless its something very recent that has no European equivalent you shouldn't have a problem replacing it with something that looks right.

    What car Is it?

    Things to note:
Displayed frequency will be different to actual frequency e.g fm 104 could display as 88.6, radio one 76.2 etc.(for illustrative purposes)

RDS won't work, so no radio station name
AF won't work so constant retuning (painful on digital radio)
If it has tv and you can get it to work, analogue transmission ending next year
If it has inbuilt satnav, it is unlikely to work, even with a European disc

    Thanks everyone.

I'm looking at a Honda Stream. Stereo not the most important thing in the world but I'd like to be able to able to listen to the radio.

If I need to get it replaced, fair enough, it is what it is. Just wanted to avoid taking away the dash nicieness.
