Crazy iPhone data usage

I've getting crazy bills from data I don't seem to be using. I've just got one for €2,000!

My iphone's data use is spiking at night time, around midnight. It happens even when I'm not using the phone.

    Anybody else have this problem?

Check that you dont have any email stuck in the outbox of your email program - I have noticed that a couple of times on the iphone exchange client and it racks up massive amounts of data.

No, nothing stuck in the outbox. Any other idea?

You may get a better response in the Apple device forum

What was eating data for me was safari was left open
it would refresh at 00:00 hours
    1. I closed all web pages using square box in safari
    2. then double click home button
    3. list of running app showed safari
    4. hold icon until a red - icon appears click in it and kill the app
next time you run safari do the same steps again.
    never leave it running.

Are you on a data plan at all? Price is 2000 euro, but how much data are you actually using?

    Things to look into.
    1. Closing apps. Double click home, close all apps.
    2. Wifi at home. Do you have it? If so, use it!
    3. Wifi does not work when phone is in standby, but data usage can continue.

Try an app like dataman free

Will tell you what is using the data.

I've asked this before and still haven't found out. I'm on a data plan so doesn't really matter but it would if I got a bill for €2K.
    I have 2 iPhones, 1 o2 and 1 Vodafone. Doesn't seem to happen on the o2 phone.

I would check what data plan youre on and what your options are for overlimit charges. Typicaly there'll be some fixed data limit and if you do over that youre charged anything from 1c-10c per MB! You should have the option to disable the overlimit charging.

I have a 500MB/month limit with 3 which i find is fine if its just for email and web pages. If youre streaming video or something like that it'll get eaten up very quickly. Are you using the phone for internet tethering by any chance?

    €2K?

Surely you are having a laugh. Even at 10c per MB, that would be 20GB plus. Have you thought about contacting your provider

i recently used 1.6 GB abroad while roaming, with iphone 4, had the 500mb data roaming add on and went 1.1 GB or so over it.

i was using data, and keeping an eye on the data counter, however at one stage it showed as used 340mb, so i used it a bit more before leaving for home, then the counter junped to 960mb, i rebooted the phone and it then jumped to 1.6gb.

something funny going on there, i dont think the iphone 4 monitors data usage correctly

out of bundle charges with the 500mb add on was €1 per MB

Yes, it's 1gb + every night. Have contacted provided and they are refunding, but I wanted to know if others are having the same problem.

As per other threads I've seen on boards, the provider does not know what is causing the problem. Also I don't want this to continue to happen.

Thanks, am trying most of this already. On plan but going over the allowance.
