Leaving aside election promises which have not been delivered upon (that's to be expected), I would have expected at this stage, that the new administration on the back of overwhelming Dail majority, honeymoon feel good factor and general public support, would have implimented tough decisions for everybody to bear, and would have laid out a further series of tough actions for the future.

Thinking about it ................... well, nothing much has happened.
There was theft Tuesday ........ and nothing else.
Seems like the lights are on in government, but nobody is at home.

They're just going to hold off and hold off and hold off on decisions until he IMF and EU force their hand. That way they're not the bad guys in the whole thing.
That's all it's about, getting in and staying in office for as long as possible, looking after themselves and damn the nation.

A new government is like a new girlfriend; there will be a short space of time in which she seems great because everything about her is new and fresh compared to the last one. But then, after a few months, you start noticing little things that bug you and these often grow into big things and suddenly, the slim and cute little creature doesn't seem so amicable any more.

Our new government were elected primarily, though not by everyone, as a means of punishing the previous government. I'm sure policy came into it in some way but most people went into the booths with the mind-set that anyone would be better than FF. Now regardless of how stupid such a mentality is, it was condusive to creating a "honey-moon" period in which people were so peeved by FF that FG/Labour seemed to be just great.

However, that little sabbatical from reality is drawing to a close. Joe Public is starting to notice how election promises are being bend and how the so called change is not going to happen any time soon.

The recent jobs budget represents what I believe to be the end of the government's honey-mood with the Irish people. In the election, it was talked up to be something wonderous and it turned out to be no more than unpaid jobs, a few short contracts for builders and the first steps into stealing people's savings. By the end of the year, I would imagine that FF will be largely forgotten and Enda and his buddies will be the new orbject of ire for Paddy.
