going to new york...

I am going to New York for like a month, by myself. I have few friends who live in Jersey but I will be living in the city. Could someone please give me a list of things to do?
My interests are music (hip-hop and punk mainly), literature and art.

While I am fully aware all of the above have a rich history in New York, I really have no idea where to start in this regard.
