Drop-in Gearbox replacement

My trusty old VFC 416 has finally dtripped a few gears, and I'm guessing it's kind of a mess in there -- it's been going for nearly two years with almost weekly use, and I was thinking of just getting a new gearbox.

Do ver2 gearboxes usually come in a standard size? I was thinking of getting a drop-in gearbox replacement, but am not sure how standard stuff is and if people do this generally.

If I was to get something like this: http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/gp-8mm-bearing-complete-gearbox-set-backdean-connector -- would it just drop in?

You don't really need to replace the whole gearbox, but if you've your heart set on it the G&P is a fantastic choice (and it will fit :p).

To be honest, while I agree with Imperozzi, you wouldn't do much wrong to use that g&p box. Its a lovely setup, and would probably vastly improve your 416.

One thing to consider in general, is if its for an m4... v2s are used in mp5s, m4s, and some other stuff I forget... thath as m4 parts with it, so chances are high its for the m16 type selector plate, and correct air nozzle.

That gearbox will literally drop in (I presume your 416 is rear wired, because that gearbox is) and work fine. Its a good choice :)

I'm sure there shouldn't be an issue in dropping the G&P box into your 416 and it is a good choice, but if you want to stick with VFC QAS can supply complete replacement VFC v2 gearboxes. They're not cheap but the quality is supposed to be excellent (I've never owned a VFC). As lperozzi hinted another option would be to see what it would cost for one of the many boards techs to re-build it.

I'd personally rate that g&p box 'set' over vfc boxes for performance. VFC are great quality, but the g&p he listed is one of the sportscars of gearboxes.

Cheers folks. Yep, I'm aware I can get it fixed, this gearbox has been through the wars and probably has a lot of stuff worn in it, I'm going to replace it in the gun and then take my time in replacing some parts in it. Trying to rectify my airsoft gun repair leper status.

A VFC drop in would be perfect to be honest, the G&Ps tend to fail - usually on the shafts of the gears...
