Bee nest in bedroom vent

    Hi folks,

A quick bit of advice needed. I have a bees nest (at least I think they are bees) in the vent in my sons bedroom, you can hear a low buzzing noise coming from the vent although infrequently. I have seen plenty of bees (they don't look like your conventional wasps, a bit shorter and fatter) going into and out from the vent. The question is what should I do, could they come into the house, also my wife suffers from anaphylactic shock if stung and I don't know if my son does as he has never been stung.

Advice appreciated, should I try and get rid of the nest?

Given the health concerns for your wife and child, get rid of the nest.
Don't know of any professionals though hopefully there will be somone here who can help with some info. I had a nest of wasps last year in the back yard, and they were still there in September though they died off after that.

Get onto your local beekeeping society and if they are honey bees, they would be more than happy to have them (assuming they are honey bees).

    edit:
use the following to find your local society

I think they are honey bees, I have got a number for the Honey bee association from your link Cul and I'll give them a buzz (excuse the pun) and see what the can do.

    Cheers

Just to give you an update...

With the great help of the Irish beekeepers the bees I have are honey bees, and is a very healthy hive. Unfortunately the nest is in the cavity of the wall, near impossible to get to unless you take a few bricks out of the wall, the builder will have to be clad in a bee keepers suit and all responsibility and costs will be mine.

As you can guess the bees are staying put for the moment

I may re-address the issue when the winter comes.

    Thanks for all your help.
