Got a free copy of The Irish Times through the letter box today, (Dublin 6)
    Anybody else get one?

If I'm not mistaken The Times was €1 yesterday? New marketing tactic I guess,
I quite like reading The Times but I wont be a regular reader until they offer a different size,
I just dont have the space to read it!

Does anybody see them changing the size in the future?

No, a lot of the old fogies would threaten to stop reading it if they changed anything about it.

But at least offer the alternative like the Independent did,
Some of their supplments are in that format already

Massive cost issues in that due to job duplication.

Every article/page in the Indo has to be laid out twice, effectively, and articles often have to be edited twice to ensure they fit in each version.

I imagine INM's plan was to intro the 'Metro' edition and then make it the only version relatively shortly after that (like what the Times and Indy in the UK did).

Unfortunately for them the readership has been largely split down the middle - though it's tending towards the tabloid version lately - which means there are many readers who make the active decision to stick with the broadsheet version. If they drop it now they might lose some of them.

The Indo were also doing the €1 promotion as well.
