Health risk from EWIS and other facade coatings

EWIS seem to have a considerable health risk. The enviroment is damaged as well from the biozides leaching out.

    See

    http://www.axioma-project.eu/calendar/leaching-of-biocides-from-facade-coatings.html
    Background Info

    • Ten percent of homeowners believe that mould is an issue in their neighbourhoods while 35 percent of home builders and 19 percent of real estate agents believe that this is an issue in the homes they build/sell.
    • A total of 11% of the entire global burden of disease has been attributed to unhealthy buildings.
    • Coatings in the built environment usually exhibit biocidal functionality between 0.5 and 2 years, whereas the desired service life in building practice is at least 10 years.

There was no attendance from Irish or British speakers at the recent conference, the issue seems to be ignored in the English speaking world.

    See

Mind that particular EWIS might be hazardous waste and the whole lot being declared as non-habitable in the future. The well and water sources polluted, the site being worthless. The water authorities demanding money from the site owners to clean up the mess.
Who knows....who cares? Sustainable building done by green horns .....

yee my preference is for a mineral wool insulation (if natural cannot be used) as its at least manufacturers claim its recyclable

Yes, waste streams and carcinogens released from poly based insulations and the acrylic/pvc renders exist (not to mention their Embodied Energy), but then can we also talk about VOC's released from painting the kids room, uPVC windows etc the list could go on:)... even the plastic bottles we drink from!

These are organic compounds you have mentioned, sooner or later they break down.
The effects of nano particles (see link) are hardly known, they don't break down. And pass through any filter. Once released they can't be brought back, be made safe.
Radioactivity seems to be a lightweight compared to nano particles when looking at protective meassures.

Note that the issue of health risks of external paints and renders is 'tackled' by the industry. Again, see the link in the OP.

If you have no opposition better create one....

just wondering why op so avidly against ewi, in all my time browsing boards and others , have yet to come across someone who spent so much time and effort digging up every possible article against a particular topic. Just think its makes whole debate a bit skewed against ewi for anyone who might be considering an energy refurb etc, ie 100 mm insulation + render. That said i would be fairly worried about workmanship, here in eire, letting adhesive dry fully before mech fixings applied and the detailing at dpc, reveals and eaves if i was getting work done. And for that matter crazy cost of ewi material thanks to nsai certs (which seem pretty worthless reading through them). anyhow apologies for going off topic, mods feel free to delete if approciate. & Btw no commercial interest in ewi for the record
