Strathclyde/Glasgow

Hi there. :) I'm supposed to be starting in Uni. of Strathclyde this September doing English Literature and History. I had a quick scout around this forum but the only Scottish places I've seen mentioned are Edinburgh and Aberdeen (sorry if I've missed it and there is something there already :o)

I was just wondering does anyone know anything about Strathclyde and/or Glasgow? I've never been to Scotland and won't get a chance to visit until September.

I'm really just looking for reassurance that I haven't signed myself up for something I'm going to regret later. Call me paranoid...!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Squishness!

I went to uni in Scotland and definitely recommend it. Strathclyde has a really good rep, I work in student accommodation so I hear all the comments good and bad!!

Glasgow is also a great city for a night out, it's decently priced and the music scene is brilliant. I work in Glasgow a few days a week so if you have any q's about the city just ask.

Aw yay! I wasn't expecting anyone to reply. Thank you!

Why have I been told not to talk about football there? I don't follow football or anything but whenever I bring up Glasgow it's the first thing I get told.

You can talk about football if you want to. The bigger problem is that if you are not into football you will get sick of hearing about it very quickly. And you will hear about it a lot. (Early hint: Don't turn on ANY radio station in Glasgow between 6pm and 8pm if you do not like football!)

I think Strathclyde are doing a serious amount of cost cutting and cutting back at the moment, you should probably check if it affects your course. Other than that its a good university in a great location close to the city centre.

Oh that's okay then. I'll be sure not to listen to the radio then!

Last time I checked my course was still there! I got the email about them cutting geography, sociology and something else next year but it doesn't affect me anyway.

    Thank you! :)

I'd be more likely to say it's to do with the Celtic/Rangers thing... you're best just staying out of things, and sectarianism is unfortunately still alive and well in some in Glasgow.
