Has anyone done the Certificate in New Media Production course (part-time) at WIT, and if so what did they make of it: useful/useless?

I've completed most of it's different parts if that helps. Caroline is my course leader also. I'm studying Multimedia Year 2, but I've gotten the majorty of the stuff on offer there done already.

Can try and answer any questions!

    Hi MitchKoobski,

I was interested in doing the Multimedia degree also but firstly I can't afford it and also due to current work commitments would not be able to get 2 evenings and a Sat morning off...

I also haven't been studying in a while so I think if I start of with a Cert in New Media production and then maybe move onto the Multimedia degree the following year. How intense is your course?

It's Graphic Design I'm really interested in, have been looking for a while for something part-time and this seems to be the best option for me..

You'll get a decent bit of Graphic Design out of it.

My favourite parts of the course are the designing e.g. Photoshop.

Multimedia Imaging : Photoshop. Great fun learning the different tools and making your own stuff.
Basic Graphic Design: Learn how logos and different advertisements are designed and drawn up. You'll be getting a basic tutorial in drawing also.
Web Design Fundamentals: This will be learning basic coding and HTML for websites. By the end you'll be able to design your own basic website without a program, but you won't have it up and online yet.

Web Development: The next stage of website design. You'll be using Adobe Dreamweaver to design your website in just a week, compared to multiple weeks with basic coding. You'll learn about different ways to design the website and stuff to add to it. By the end you'll have your own website up and running online.

I can't really speak for the rest of the classes on offer as they don't sound familiar to anything I've completed yet. The degree itself is NOT Multimedia. That should be made clear to anyone thinking about it. It's Mulimedia APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT. It starts out like the Media and Design course but very quickly becomes all about programming, maths and databases. Personally I'm only heading into third year to try out the Video Editing further and get my degree.
