No offence but perhaps in the current climate not so many have 8, 9 or even twelve grand to consider over?

It is simply very hard to give reliable advice. The general rule is that as seats fill up, prices go up. But then you have the odd random sales and error fares that pop up out of the blue. So it is a gamble either way: Book now and risk missing out on a sale that happens to start tomorrow. Wait and risk having prices rise with no sale in sight. Given that you are talking serious money, I think nobody wants to take on the responsibility of telling you to do it one way or the other. Your money, your gamble :).

As others said it is very hard to say. Firstly can you afford to go so much over budget?

I would take a couple of days and shop around big time. Look at UK, USA and Eurporean based comapnies as well as Irish. My best friend saved €4000 by booking her honeymoon through a UK bompany rather than Irish.

To be honest whether you book now or later is up to you. It is a bit like the stock markets. in that the prices can go up or down. No one here can really make that decision for you.

I understand that, Iam not asking people have they got 8,9 or even 12k iam just asking do you think the prices will drop.

9k is the most i will have as i need spending money not much as its all inclusive if i had to i could get a 3k loan but dont really want to go that route.
Looked at a few uk travel agents mexico looks a good spot but still looking at around 11-12k will defo look at a few more uk companys and europe, might just hold out til after summer as they will probably concentrate on winter holidays then

    Thanks for the reply

Prices of long haul holidays do fluctuate all the time (although maybe not by significant amounts). Having been to the Caribbean numerous times, I think that the prices you've been quoted are astronomical.

As someone previously advised above, go on-line, check with UK operators and you will definitely be able to improve on the price. I find that for the most part, travel agents are not interested in getting you the best price, they will only give you the details of the first option or two which come up on their screen!

What sort of accommodation were you looking into at that price?
I'll assume flights for 5 are circa €4000 so that means accomadation of €4k a week?
That would have to be high end accomadation?

There is an all inclusive resort in riviera maya mexico which is very nice.

We gate crashed this one accidently and I can tell you it's fantastic.
If you got two joining rooms there, you could have 2 doubles and a sofa bed for the three kids and a king bed in room two for yourselves.

Loads of nice restaurants, lots of activities and a wonderfull beach.

    Here is it's website :

I'd imagine you could get that based on 2 rooms for the forthnight for half your budget and it definitely is five star luxury,I can vouch for that.

You can eat and drink as much as you want and it has casual and fine dining restaurants. The pool bar you can swim up to and ...well as adults, you can drink there all day if you wish,it's all included :)

    Cool.
Drop me a pm if you want an opinion on what they come up with, travels my hobby :)
I mightn't see this thread later but I'll try and check in if you are posting.
That area has a lot of beautifull resorts but secrets is the only decent all inclusive[I mean fantastic actually] and the most family friendly.

Theres a decent fairmont in the area, but the best ones we visited were, the mandarin oriental and the 2 mayakoba resorts, the Bayantree being one and the rosewood being the other.
All of those are on one strip of the Caribbean about a half hour's drive south of Cancun airport.
The large town of playa del carmen is a 10 minute drive further south and is a mini Ibiza.

You are likely to get cabin fever though even within an all inclusive so budget for car hire too.
