    Breaking Bad.... no question!

You can pick up the first two seasons for about €14 each in HMV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,723 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Band of Brothers too if you haven't seen it. Only 10 episodes but you can follow it up with The Pacific (haven't seen The Pacific myself though)

Try this side of the pond - Life On Mars or The Thick Of It.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,871 ✭✭✭Conor108

Breaking Bad or either one of the NCIS series

Try "The Walking Dead". I was in Golden discs today and there selling the 1st season for €30 (just 6 episodes), what a rip-off. I can buy the blu-ray version for €25 in HMV.

    yep, walkign dead is brilliant

Six Feet Under or for a bit of Comedy - curb your Enthusiasm so so funny!
Anything by HBO is a safe enough bet for me ;)

Breaking Bad and the Walking Dead seems to get most peoples votes

Have seen Prison break (by the end of it i just wanted it to end!), got to Mad Men season 3 but very slow. Band of Brothers is brilliant. Seen bits of OZ.

The Sharpe series with Sean Bean

Over 15 episodes and I've seen it for 30 euro. The episodes are long so you're getting value
I paid 80 euro in HMV

The Hornblower series was good too.

    I like these historical series

Do you watch 24? You better watch season 5!

Yes, would have to recommend 24 also. Fantastic series.

I'm on the last few episodes of Jericho - thought that was pretty good.
Comedy-wise - I loved Trailer Park Boys - so funny. Frasier is a clever comedy, probably one of the smartest ever...you have to have a certain sense of humour though

You should give Dexter a go....great series.

I would echo other people in recommending The Shield! Thought it was brilliant...also loved the Sopranos, The Wire, The West Wing..

Next on my list is Breaking Bad and then maybe Oz

I've watched similar series to the OP - currently on season 2 of Criminal Minds - find it really interesting & very addictive...

NO - not "The Walking Dead", most over-rated and disappointing show of the last year.
Watch "Breaking Bad" though - brilliant show and criminally unrecognised here.
Also "The Shield" as a show that maintained a high quality throughout its seven seasons - a feat no other show has managed as far as I'm concerned.

The Shield and Breaking Bad in that order. Both superb.

Wallander (the real one - not the Kenneth Brannagh version!)

The Killing - it was on bbc a while back, brilliant, brilliant series (the dvd is for sale on the bbc website, and there is an American re-make too)

Treme - just finished season 1 of this, loved it

(Personally I thought Mad Men was hugely over-rated)

The Wire is five seasons of brilliance.

    Mad Men
    Arrested Development
Entourage - didnt think anything could be funnier than arrested development.
    The Shield.
    Deadwood

Bought sons of anarchy season 1, watched maybe 2 or 3 epiosdes, throught it was dreadful.

The Wire is five seasons of brilliance.
Season 5 is weaker though. I don't think "The Shield" dipped in quality. Still of course Season 5 of "The Wire" is better than the best seasons of most other shows.

Season 5 of The Shield with Forest Whitaker is the best and most compelling drama Ive seen yet. I just couldnt stop watching.

The Shield is just brilliant. The variety and depth of the storylines and plots is unmatched IMO.

Usually with these shows youd get an episode or two thrown in there just as a filler but TS is just brilliantly written with all episodes hugely significant. Miss it at your peril.
