They are ok....... They can give electrical faults so get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it for you and maybe plug in a diagnostic computer

They are generally a bad car, Peugeots used to be great little hatchbacks that handled great and looked good, that all ended when the 306 hung up its boots. The 307 is a heavy thing, good for safety but for power or handling not so good. As a result the 1.4 75hp petrol is lost in such a car, the 70hp 1.4 diesel is marginally better but still painful. The larger engined 1.6 petrol or 2.0 HDI are much better, but when paying that kind of tax there are much better options.
The 307 is consistently at the bottom of reliability and customer satisfaction surveys, but granted a few good ones exist as with any car. The chances of actually finding one for sale and knowing that its one of these chosen few are slim.

The engines were improved towards the end of production and late models get the not too shabby 95hp 1.4 16v petrol and 1.6 HDI as seen in everything from the MINI to the Mazda3.

To sum up: only buy one that you have personal experience of, remember that dealer warranties run out eventually, and that there are far better options like the ford focus around.

Painful to drive, own, look at, fix and sell.

Ugly looking dirt box. If I was given one I'd use it as a toilet and then abandon it.
Seriously though, ugly, slow, not very reliable, did I mention ugly? It's big I'll give it that but that is its only saving grace. There are far better cars. Have a look at an Astra, a Civic or a Focus, they're much better cars.
