Why do some of these people need to" pimp up "their cars with bigger wheels and tyres and such rubbish:rolleyes:.Why cant they just leave them the way they are meant to be.Ok, they are their own cars and they can do what they like, IMO it justs takes from the look/beauty of them.I suppose they just want to be more unique than the others, but I certainly would not do it.What is it with alot of the cars above having a ZV registration number. Is this reserved for the classic car only?

    ...lovely pics, lovely cars.

But it got me to thinking............in all those of car's ....only 13 or so had (original) Irish plates (as distinct from latterly imported...).............curious, that.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Curious ?? I think not

Reasons - well Genuine Irish reg cars seems to command a higher price
Genuine Irish cars, in my opinion, are rare because they were never maintained very well here. There was never a mentality or the need to keep a car in good working order. Servicing was something you did at home and only went to the garage if you didn't have the necessary tools.
Thinking back to the 80's/90's I remember escorts with holes in the footwells so big your could see the tyre and drove for many years like this.
The MOT in the UK has been running since the 60's, The NCT is a relatively new thing here - the only thing a guard could pull you for was bald tyres everything else was OK!

British restorations are better! Really better I hear you say?? well maybe not better there are some very talented restorers in this country but they get much better bang for buck over there as with everything to do with classics, everything is more expensive here than the UK so they are more likely to be restored to a better standard over there.

Spec Spec Spec - Why would I buy an 80's Irish car here where extras include wipers and indicators and an upgrade to a 1.1L engine when I can buy a UK high spec car with leather interior/ power steering / electric windows with a full service history from new. I'm yet to see good full service history for a Irish car - and im not talking about a stamped service book, I can buy one of these on eBay, I'm talking about receipts for work done. These were hardly even given out by garages not to mind kept by owners
Yes I have a ZV plate and If I buy another classic I will be heading over the pond again to get it. I don't see where this ZV snobbery comes from - its not like these cars were made here anyway so they are all imports (yes maybe some were actually made here and are exempted from this comment)

So perhaps it brings out the question - What are the benefits of owning a "Genuine" Irish registered car?

Ohh well there's my Midnight rant ;) might need editing in the morning :P
