E3 2011 Predictions

It's hard to belive but Nintendo will be centre stage in the Los Angeles Convention Center for its annual E3 press conference this time next week. Last years show saw Nintendo return to its roots with revivals in its Donkey Kong, Kirby, Kid Icarus and Star Fox francises while also introducing its new baby - the Nintendo 3DS. With it now launched and available for the public, the 3DS is crying out for new games to occupy it. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D planned for release in the coming weeks, there is no doubt that Nintendo will reveal its release schedule for the coming months with the likes of Mario Kart, Super Paper Mario and Star Fox set to star on the new portable. So what are your predictions for E3 2011 in terms of Nintendo and Third Party Publishers? What do you think the Wii 2/Project Café/Stream will be called? And what games will be on it? Also, what will Nintendo reveal for its dying Wii? And will The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword move console?

It was center stage last year too.
Having hardware is working wonders for their e3 conferences.
    ...Disregard vitality sensor.

Wii has 2 or 3 new pokemon games to be revealed, and there's all the translations still to come from Japan, but I can't see them spending too much time talking about Wii or DS.
    3DS will be focus.

And the new Project Cafe/Wii 2 that'll be on display so all in all it's looking like it will be a good E3

I don't know if Nintendo will take full advantage of showing of its new console because I can't see it launching until late next year. This is because the other two console developers won't have the opportunity to take Nintendo's ideas and reproduce it with new bells and whistles added. So, the 3DS could possibly be the main focus.

In relation to Pokémon, there is meant to be some new game (possibly a sequel to Pokémon XD) for 3DS to be revealed in Corocoro magazine on June 15th so possibly an E3 reveal. However, most Pokémon announcements normally take place in Japan so who knows... (Well, Nintendo does...).

    Other names floated are:
Connex, Stream(you all knew this), Feel, Sense, and Beem(this was just a concept name featured in an IGN article, but hey).

All sh*t, so all highly plausible. Except Connex who run trains in the UK

I heard that too. If it proves to be true then this is great news. Nintendo gave the Wii it's name to make it universal sounding. When you think of Nintendo you immediately thing of the NES and SNES. Atari was once another term for video games in general with the general public, then the same was true for Nintendo and then Playstation. So it would be an indication of Nintendo returning to it's roots.

It's pretentious and lazy to be honest. Nintendo are far beyond their company name being used as a term for playing videogames. It's not going back there ever and it's foolish of them to even think it possible.

Further to that, it would be an absolute pain in the arse for anyone like myself who collects old games and consoles.

If you call something 'Nintendo' you mean the NES. 'Super Nintendo' is a Snes. That is the natural order of things! You need new/unique titles to differentiate between games and consoles.

For example, the NGP is the 'Neo Geo Pocket'. Yet for some reason it now refers to the new Sony handheld. Sorry Sony, SNK got there 12 years before you.

    Anyway, I digress.

    New names = good.

Rehashing old names, or using vague generic ones in an attempt to seem like you're going back to your roots (whatever the hell that means) or somehow want your company name to be used as an all encompassing term for playing videogames = bad.

I think the conference will touch briefly on the hack that happened this morning, and how well they handled it compared to Sony!

I'm expecting a ton of first party release games for the 3DS because right now, the games available really haven't had me reaching out to constantly pick up my 3DS.

Looking forward to seeing the new console too and what specs it has to offer. A HDMI port would be a great start. :)

How well they handled it? You mean by saying nothing about it for months?

I'd say HDMI will go without saying, as it's said to be more powerful than the 360 or PS3.
