2011 Cultra Hillclimb Event News-Up-date Saturday 4th June

    With the program at the printers and the permits applied for, the 2011 event is fast approaching. This year the tscc welcomes the NI Sevens challenge series entrants and as in 2010 the hillclimb competition is being complemented by demonstrations and displays of interesting cars and motorbikes, which would not ordinarily participate in Northern Ireland hillclimb event.
    The main theme for 2011 is a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the introduction of the iconic E-Type Jaguar, in association with the Jaguar Drivers, Jaguar Enthusiasts Clubs and private owners, who will be providing two displays of classic Jaguar sports cars within the museum grounds.
    In our main display area at the Manor house we will have a timeline of classic Jaguar's, complemented by the latest Jaguar models courtesy of Charles Hursts.
    Go Motorsport will be in attendance with various display cars and our local rep will be able to offer you advice in getting started in motorsport or in pursuing a voluntary role within the sport.
    To help celebrate the 80th birthday of legendary Holywood racing car constructor John Crosslé, we also have a timeline display of his most significant cars. He will have a run in his first single-seat racing car, now a Transport Museum exhibit, and there will be a demonstration by his successful Sporting Trials cars in The Glen.
    Mr Charles Hurst won the 1911 Cultra hillclimb in a Belfast built Chambers motorcar and one of only three surviving examples and will again be run up the hillclimb course.
    Complimenting the speed hillclimb competition, there will be demonstration runs from classic motorbikes, supercars and iconic rally cars.
    Highlights include a bike demo run by former MotoGP bike racer Jeremy McWilliams who is promoting the SPARKS Charity organisation that supports research into children's illness.
    Drift Car competitor Andy Cooper returns and will be mainly travelling sideways up the hill and rallying will be represented by 2 iconic rallycars from the Ford stable Frank McPolin's 1986 Ford RS200GpB rally car. This car is in full works rally spec capable of delivering a staggering (450 bhp). The second representative is Davy Wilson's 1981 GP4 1800 Escort replica, sporting what has now become the iconic Rothmans livery. It is also apt, that it is 30 years since David Richards and Ari Vatanen won the world championship and the last private team to do so.
    Other highlights include a 2010 Ferrari 995 monza and static GP2 cars from the Philip Sheilds motorsport stable.
    Visitors can view all the participating cars and bikes and meet the drivers and riders in the Paddocks.
