No claims bonus

Hi guys, I did a quick search here and found a thread where somebody said a no claims bonus is valid for up to 2 years after, which is what I thought it was also. But after a quick google, I see this page about no claims bonus:

    http://blog.nononsense.ie/2009/06/26/what-is-a-no-claims-discount/

It doesn't seem to mention anything about it. So I have a couple of years no claims bonus from a few years back. I haven't owned a car in about 2 and a half years. Does anybody have any experience of something similar and know if the no claims would be valid?

I know I should ring insurance companies for a definite answer, but I don't plan on buying a car again in the immediate future (not in the next 6 months anyway), so just curious more than anything if anybody was able to use a no claims bonus that was years old.

    Thanks.

Its up to the insurance company as to if they want to recognise it or not. I don't get your point about the blog not mentioning it?

An NCB will expire after two years. This is a general rule set down by the IIF and the III. You may be able to persuade an underwriter however generally anything over two years is not valid.

I meant I couldn't see in the blog it specifically saying if your NCB is over 2 years it's not valid.

    As I was thinking, cheers.
