It depends. If you wanted to use the iPad to watch movies while on a plane or listening to music, then maybe. But if you are just using it for web browsing, apps, etc, then 16GB is probably plenty.

why are you getting the old ipad? you can get the ipad 2 for €479, wifi only & 16GB.

With the new iCloud device coming online soon storage might not be much of an issue if it's just home use and you have decent wifi. Even now it's easy to stream straight from home pc or laptop. Out and about however, you need the space especially with just a wifi iPad. Weigh up your needs carefully first!

    Because it is €100 cheaper?

    False economy imho.

The extra processing power and cameras of the new version will future-proof you more for when iPad3 eventually comes along. More and more apps are going to take advantage of iPad2's enhancements as time moves on leaving the iPad1 further behind.

But how can you know if it's a false economy when you don't know what he wants it for. OP might want it for one specific job that it covers and would be not financially viable to spend more on the device than is necessary.

Let's be realistic here. An iPad is in no way an essential requirement for anyone. It will only ever be a supplementary piece of kit. If you are going to spend money on one, you are far better getting one that is at least somewhat future proof. Buying last year's model to 'save' €100 is shortsighted. If the extra money is an issue, you might be better off with a netbook...

Not true at all. The iPad is not going to stop working because new models come out. People still use iPhone 2g's. We are going away from topic here, so we will agree to differ.

To the OP, my opinion, is that €379 still represents good value on something that is still an excellent piece of kit, and much more of the people I know with iPad's didnt upgrade to the second gen then did, because they did not see the second gen as such a huge advancement to justify the outlay. Some did, more didnt.
If the faster processer and camera's are not a big issue to you, you will be fine for a long time to come on the iPad.

Thanks for the Advice . I have an iPhone 3GS and
Don't see the need to upgrade to an iPhone 4 . However I think in this case I will go for a better piece of kit .

I think the key point you are missing is that the OP isn't upgrading, he is jumping in fresh. Therefore it is better to buy the latest if buying at all. The old Apple rule is buy every second iteration...
