On the lunchtime news another brittish member of parliament is facing time behind bars because he was dishonest with his expenses. Our own TDs can get away with nearly anything, police in the UK are seen to be doing their jobs. When will we see arrests over the likes of the €50bn counterfiet issued by our central bank?

I don't think the Gardaí use Boards.IE as an official medium of communication.

Never gonna happen. More likely we'll see protests from them over wages and pensions than them doing something useful for the economy like jailing these fraudsters.

I think that the current laws in place are not really useful in dealing with white collar criminals so there is a limit to what our gardai can do compared to the UK police.

There's loads of laws. One of them would do. Anti-terrorism for a start! Get the feckers behind bars first, deal with the prosecution later IMO

I don't think the guards are to blame for the laws around here

Gardaí dont listen, Its not their job to listen, Its their job to do as they are told, So therefore the politicians know they can do what they want, The Gardaí are too politically involved to be effective against corruption here.

If you want to jail somebody, you might want to come up with a more practical solution than an act which doesn't cover their crime or internment either.

You better hope to catch them between five and six thirty as they bugger all work at feeding time.

The elites in this country only make 'errors of judgement' the rest of us break the law.

The Gardai have no control over the law in all fairness. Don't blame them for the law not being on their side, they don't set only unhold and enforce them.

This part allowed for the arrest of individuals without a warrant and on reasonable suspicion that they were guilty of an offence under the Act or otherwise "concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism". The period of initial detention was up to 48 hours, this could be extended by a maximum of five additional days by the Home Secretary.

Financial terrorists could easily be detained for up to seven days. I don't get your point. At a time when this country most needs to exercise these powers the authorities are choosing not to.

Know what the TV license inspector feels like. I've heard all the excuses.
