Looks choppy as hell out there , going to give a partial swim a go tomorrow eve on the course as I have not been open water yet this year and due to an arm/shoulder injury playing up I might give it a miss , The Olympic is out and back in the sea and I dont want to be 700m from land realising I should have went for a walk instead.

The cycle is really great and while a little hilly its not too bad.

    Looking forward to it.

That was my second ever triathlon (sprint) in as many weeks really enjoyed it. Last time was in spiddal where the swim conditions were atrocious so was looking forward to a nice calm swim today, however it was quite blustery and the swell was high and made swim almost as difficult as spiddal 2 weeks ago.
However i learned from my mistakes last time and i think i bet my last time by about 20 mins. The race marshall said i came ninth overall and so i cant believe it!!:) will have to wait for the results...
It a really good spot for a triathlon tho my only complaint is that they needed a few more marshalls...a cyclist in front of me didnt take left turn after carrowinsky as there was no marshall to tell him to go left only a small sign..and i went right instead of left at the start of the run and i was shouting at people to tell me where to go!!

I did the Olympic and had a great swim, some of the marshals on the course were hopeless, sent cyclists the wrong way a few of the first swimmers from the Olympic were sent on the sprint route and some of the slow sprint swimmers were sent on the Olympic route, signs were all over the place.

A lot of work briefing marshals needs to be done for next year and better directional signs for the bike.

It is hard to blame anyone as they are all volunteers and their work greatly appreciated. Food after was a treat..

    Did the sprint....great race!
Found the swim tough going with the swell!
Thankfully had no probs with marshalls

Got the txt on Sat eve for the results!

I heard some cyclists went the wrong way. Not sure how you could go wrong on the swim though, as it was a very simple course (easy for me to say though, since I didn't do it). But, there's always potential for confusion on a double event like this. One thing I noticed was no directions where to start the run from. Some people went back out the cycle route and if they didn't realise, then they missed one timing mat. It's a pity when stuff like that happens and they should really do everything possible to avoid it. It looked to me like most people got on fine though, and it's a great location. I might give it a bash next year.

It was very easy to go astray on the swim. The Olympic bouy was so far out that it was difficult to see from the shore let along when you were swimming in the swell. The Olympic started a bit down from the where the Sprint bouy was so we had no reference point, just following swimmers ahead of you! On my way out I found myself in the path of Swimmers on the way back from the bouy due to the current pulling across. And I wasn't the only one.

Otherwise the rest was fine, very scenic bike and run.

I did the sprint, found it enjoyable, and although marked with signs, there was a turn or two on the bike that could have done with a marshall. Swim was tough on the way out, but at least there was the gentle shove of the waves to bring us back into shore!
