Quick question I left a deposit on a philips L.E.D tv Sunday and going back Friday to collect it but Iv since heard you can haggle with them on the marked price witch was 600 euro I bought a blue ray DVD player but I paid for that in full there and then can I go back and say I want a few quid off the telly before I pay the 500euro balance if I say I bought a blue ray DVD player two the other day

You could try but they certainly don't have to give you anything off, no harm trying

You might be better looking to get something small thrown in for free. - Margins on TV's are tiny, far better haggling is to be done on furniture.

I'd say that unless you can find another shop selling the same TV then cheaper they will not reduce the price.

You paid for the deposit with the telly being priced at €600? I wouldn't give you anything off it. You should have haggled the price before you put a deposit down on it. You're just going to be going into to collect something you ordered basically. so I doubt you can haggle the price on it when you go to collect it.

That being said, they might be nice about it. But the only chance of that I'd say is if you bought the TV and the Blu-Ray player from the same sales assistant or something.

You've paid a depositso wouldn't think you can do anything should have done so first day. When people got into shops and haggle they seem to think just because things are bad shops should more or less give things to people at the end of the day there are a business and not one to gives stuff away. Iv worked in a shop before and people would auctally give out to you when then make a offer and you say no, its something i offten wonder where people get this idea that shops should give people things for less then the marked price

its plain and simple...your typical customer is used to being ripped off by local independent stores who will give you a ''special'' discount. i used to work with an independent store(now closed) who would have a ticket price and on their system their would be a sale price...salesmen could use that gap between both prices to seal the deal and even at the sale price margins where quite high even with tvs, fridges etc...just the discount seemed so good naive consumers would go for the deal.anyways big stores like harvey norman you will find wont haggle with the likes of tvs and laptops or else if they do theyl be a few quid dearer than others will give the consumer a 'special' discount.. might i add thats if they ask for the discount

I'm sure if you go in OP and ask for a deal, the salesperson will do something for you. Unlike what the previous poster seems to think, margins on TV's and Fridges and the like are not quite high, but if there is movement, i'm sure they will do something. Better to have your money going into our till than someone else's.
