Bit of an obscure question, I think...

Hey, I've converted some files on my PC to .mov in Quicktime 7.6 for editing on an ancient Mac running Final Cut 4 and Quicktime 6.4.

Bit of a pisser but for some reason, the video won't play on the old Mac but the sound seems to work fine, however. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? Thanks.

for some reason, the video won't play on the old Mac but the sound seems to work fine,

Check the sequence settings; make sure they match the clip settings. Could be that your system can't handle large files so a workaround is to recompress the footage for the offline and then using media manager to re- link back to the originals for the online.

Of course if you can’t play the online you won’t be able to produce a master tape so you could try exporting the online sequence making one QT media file which should take some of the data crunching off FCP and it may then be able to play it. Upgrading is unfortunately the easy answer.
