The Irish Scools Track and Field championships take place in Tullamore this Saturday June 4th. They are always one of the best days sport of the year and this year will be no exception.

This year will see a number of stars such as European Champion Mark English in the 800m and Ciara Mageean in the Irish Milers Club 800m. In addition a large number of the qualifiers for the European Juniors, World Youth and EYOF will be in action. It really is a day to savour.

Any predictions? Who should we look out for? Any potential upsets?

Ruairi Finnegan, still an inter boy, will be one to watch in the 1500

Think Shane Quinn is running the senior boys 1500 so will be interesting to see what he can do, ran sub 3:50 in 2009 didnt he?

Looking forward to the Inter Boys HJ. Favourite jumped 1.96 U17 indoors earlier this year equalling a record set by Adrian O'Dwyer.

Not sure if that boy is jumping in Inter Boys high jump.
Ones to watch in senior would be Amy O Donoghue and Mary Ann O Sullivan in Senior 800, Senior Boys 5k has a savage line up, Inter Boys 800 should be a cracker, Senior boys steeple will be tight, best in few years, Senior 15 btw Quinn and maybe Tommy Casey,Senior Boys 800 for English mainly although Dean Cronin went well in Munster..Inter Boys 100 has to be seen to be believed.. no names! Inter girls 300 hurdles has some good athletes as well.
In the field, Inter boys high jump is very level, Inter girls high has some good jumpers, Marco Pons always worth a look in the discus
Who is pacing the IMC?? Any potential qualifiers there?

Heard that he was out of the country for the Leinster schools and was given permission to compete.

    Weather forecast is good too.

Leighio will be looking to secure the u23 standard. Could also see Noel Collins pull out a solid time. Last year ran a 3.46 in the 1500 so he should be good for a low 1.50s atleast and depending on his training focus this year

Preview of the schools t&f at http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/?p=19447

Surprised that it doesn't mention Daire Farrell from Leitrim in the Inter Boys 800m ... he ran 1.54.62 earlier this year and in the Connacht schools broke Ray Flynn's 37 year old Connacht schools record with a 1.55.2.

Should be a great race between him and Donegal's Karl Griffin.

Looking forward to see what Marcus Lawlor can do, though I doubt he'll have anyone to push him to a super fast time

Lots to play for there in that inter 800 too. These misses happen a bit in the previews....
Re Lawlor Greg o Shea is on his way back so he might give him a small shove

Already today at the All-Ireland Schools, 2 new records from 2 Waterford girls.

Kate Veale smashed the senior record in the 3k walk with 12.40.09, beating the old 13.51.

Cara Kennedy likewise easily broke the senior hammer record, with a fine throw of 55.31, with the old one standing at 52.91.

A great start to the day!
