Ok folks I've my first lesson tomorrow after hacking around for the last few months. Have been playing ok but want to improve and have a consistent swing. Right now it's just luck half the time.

My question is what questions should I be asking the pro. I don't want to leave the lesson and then in the car home say why didn't I ask that. Or should I just shut up and listen to him :o

Reckon once you have made some swings he will see where you need to improve.Just let him know in chat before hand where you feel you're struggling and what you would like to see improve.Big thing is make sure its only few things you work on as game hard enough without numerous swing thoughts when addressing the ball.
Since you are going for first lesson make sure the grip and alignment and posture are looked at as they're vital, but guessing that will be his first priority anyway.

Enjoy it and hope it goes well

    Well first lesson over.

Worked on proper grip, stance and following through. Stuck with the 7 iron and towards the end was hitting 150 without too much effort. He says distances should get longer over time as I wasn't exactly giving it full power.

Off to the course tomorrow so we will see how it goes

I went to Brendan a few years ago and came away with my head in a mess. Basically I was playing ok but felt that my ball striking was not as good as it could be, felt I needed some fine tuning and knew he had a good reputation, so off Iwent.

To cut a long story short he wanted to make so many adjustments to different aspects of my technique that when he was finished with me I felt I was swinging like an octupus falling out of a tree.

I really feel that for a leeson to be valuable there are a only a small number of things you should get to work on and he just overloaded me.

In saying that he is held in very high regard especially by many of the pros. I know a good number of the Irish region lads go to him and I think he is still Peter Lawries coach.

I suppose in every coaches case, they tend to teach one swing only, so therefore if you went there with a Jim Furyk swing and he only teaches a Colin Montgomerie type swing then there is going to be a lot for him to do to get you around to his swing thought, people need to look into this more before getting lessons.

Would be interested to know did you give the pro feedback?

Looks into a crystal ball..... you're going to play shockingly, but don't be discouraged. I've been to 5 lessons, and after each one i played brutal for a few rounds, but my good shots were better than my previous good shots while still having a good brace of duffs.

My advice is to persevre with what the pro told you, no matter how bad your game gets as it will come right.... eventually. Its very easy to go back to what your comfortable with, but try to resist, you will reap the benifits in the end, believe me.

In my one only lesson (with Donal McSweeney in Limerick) he videoed my swing for both irons and drivers... and just pointed out the several issues with my posture and backswing.... I found the video excellent and as I was sent a copy I could go back and review it afterwards. I still mentally tick off the points he made everytime I address a ball...

No I didn't give the Pro any feedback.Taught the leeson was a good idea at the time then realised that it was not for me. I just moved on and returned to the Pro I had always used.
