My first fox

Not sure if this goes in shooting or hunting but anyway...

Was out yesterday just at the start of my walk and saw a fox up the top of the field. I jumped over the ditch and made my way up along the outside of the ditch until I was level, stuck the head up and it was just slowly walking around. Fired first shot (aprox 45 meters) and clipped his back legs. I fired to soon with the second (wide choke, size 6 12 gauge) and missed.

I quickly began to reload (I don't have shell eject!) and he began running straight towards me ignoring the safety of the ditch opposite he WAS RIGHT NEXT TO!

I rammed the two shells into the gun and jumped up on top of the ditch. Just as I fired he saw me and bolted full speed right, I missed. He was now within 10 meters of safety and my second shell took him straight in the side of the chest. He went over and didn't move again.

Was very surprised as it was about 3 in the afternoon. On closer inspection there was the carcass of a mangled rabbit on the ground where I had first seen him.

I lopped of his tail. I have heard you are meant to cover them in salt and leave for a day or two, is this correct?

End result, very proud of my first fox :D

(sorry no pics, didn't have the phone with me!)

There out and about alright:D Seen 2 BIG cubs last night as i was going into town at 0230, the two of them and a cat sitting in the middle of the road:confused: dont know if they were going to eat the cat or play with it but they were just sitting beside it:) car spooked them and they ran into the field

So today went down to the field where they where and found the two of them running around like laloos:D no vixen in sight, got over the gate and they spotted me and ran to ground, went home and got the rifle. Sat for 4 hours calling them out of the hole but they didnt budge, snared up the hole and 2nd entrance, will see tomorrow:D

Went for a dander the long way home through the fields and the amount of chicken feathers/carcass totaled 11:eek:,spoke to a few neighbors and they relised they where missing them:rolleyes:

    Yeah it was great :)

Does anyone know about how to treat the tails properly so they don't fall apart and keep their hair etc?

Or is the salt just to kill parasites?

I used White spirit, killed the smell and the fleas :D

Skin the tail from the bone and there is nothing left to rot. It leaves you with a nice soft tail that you can bundle up in to your pocket in a bag or what ever.
