My 6 year old child was today prescribed antibiotics for a hole in his tooth even though it is not to be filled until July. I was just wondering is this normal practice?

Antibiotics should only be given if the tooth is very tender to bite on or there is a swelling in or outside the mouth that indicates infection...
If this was indeed the case- the tooth can not be saved with a simple filling... It either needs an extraction or a kiddie root canal called a pulpotomy...

That said, some dentists give antibiotis for simple toothaches to prevent infection!! Then it might respond to a filling!!

Hard to say.... Why the wait until July??

You may want to do a diet analysis to determine the cause of the tooth decay

Ovalu, do you think there is another way you could word that statement so as not to be quite as inflammatory?
