    Hi all,

going to view an apt in rathfarnham tomorrow.

for those who live there, or near there, what's it like to live in?

i know that's a bit of a broad question but you know, is traffic bad most of the time, good bus service, bars & restaurants etc.

    thanks.

It depends exactly whereabouts in Rathfarnham the apartment is located.
The 16/16a (fairly frequent) and the 74A (infrequent) all pass alongside the village. All of the (frequent) 15s pass through Terenure which is roughly a 15 min walk from Rathfarnham village.
Is the apt close to the village itself?

    Hi.

The apt is just off the village, i'd say a 1 min walk max.

Yeah, i'm kind of considering moving toward Rathfarnham village as there are nice hosues available for rent. My concern is it's a bit of trek in and out of the city centre (for socialising, not my daily commute) at the weekend. Am a bit torn, i have seen some nice houses for rent on daft and we'd like a bigger place than we have now in Dublin 6.

    Hmm...torn !

Sorry, only picking this up now. I hope the viewing went well.
If it's closer to the village than say the shopping centre then you should be ok for public transport but unfortunately, you'll be solely relying on buses, if you were closer to Dundrum/Ballinteer area, you'd have the option of the Luas.

re I am pie's potential move from D6 to D16, if you're Ranelagh/Rathmines based (or that's your closest main st if you know what I mean), you will find Rathfarnham a complete change of pace. Nowhere near the range you have in Ranelagh but as you mention, pay off is, you will probably find a bigger place.

Have you considered Rathgar or Terenure (that bit closer to town) or Sandyford, Ballinteer, Dundrum (Dublin 14/16 area and generally accessible to Luas)?

Journey time on the 16/16a is about 20-25 minutes off-peak and 35 minutes peak to/from Dame Street.

I moved from Harolds cross to Rathfarnham 13 years ago , and i love it, Buses are fine with 16/16a/17/75/74/15. Luas is a short walk away too, Plenty of schools, shopping centres, pubs and clubs, good luck with the viewing:)

Took a drive round Rathfarnham last night, thought it was OK but wasn't convinced. Not moving for a few months yet so keeping an open mind. Keener on Terenure now, but a lot of daft ad's for Terenure are really Kimmage ! We're in Milltown now and would love to stay but really want a house. Would miss the LUAS tho ! Maybe Leopardstown is a good bet.

Thinking out loud really ; )

5 miles. Decent bus service, or you could cycle ...or sometimes I walked it for exercise / if no taxis / to sober up. Closer than Leopardstown anyway.
